SWIMMING It’s the feeling you get at the end of a hard practice when you pushed yourself to the limits.
And its the way the water feels when you get back in after a few months off. It’s knowing that you are wanted on the team -and that you don't have to shave and that no one else is going to be dressed up.
And that you can be as loud as you want and that you are the only one who knows what you are really cheering.
It’s seeing everyone else cheer you on during an especially good race.
It’s borrowing caps and sharing lotion and a collection of t-shirts and ribbons.
It’s not really being able to put into words how the meet went.
It’s knowing that you got up and did something today and that even on an off day you were still better than 98% of the world will ever be.
It’s part of your identity and it’s knowing that you'll always have something to do on a Friday night.
It’s something you love and something you hate and something you really can’t explain and don’t even want to understand.
It’s the way you walk and the way you talk and a bond that no one else really understands.
But that’s ok-because every time you get up on the blocks it isn’t even you really, it’s all the friends and coaches over the years, all the practices and silly games, all the memories, all the road trips--because swimming is really a team sport and its more than a sport--
IT’S A WAY OF LIFE
